Comprehensive Psycho-Educational Assessments

As a school psychologist, I am dedicated to providing comprehensive psychological educational assessments to help students reach their full potential. These in-depth evaluations go beyond traditional academic testing, delving into the complex interplay of cognitive abilities, academic skills, social-emotional functioning, and behavioral factors.

A comprehensive psychological educational assessment is a thorough evaluation that examines a student's overall strengths, challenges, and unique learning profile. This assessment process is particularly valuable for students who may be struggling with learning disabilities, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Autism, or other developmental or behavioral concerns. It can also benefit students who demonstrate exceptional abilities and may be identified as gifted.

The comprehensive assessment typically includes the following components:

- Background information

- Review of records

- Cognitive areas

- Academic achievement

- Processing areas (visual, auditory, memory, executive functioning, etc.)

- Social-emotional areas

- Developmental areas

- Behavioral Analysis

The areas assessed and tools used vary for each individual. Some of these assessments will be done directly with the student, through observations, and forms completed by the student, parents, and the teacher (background information, rating scales, etc.). The assessment process includes a report with all the assessment results, interpretation (possible characteristics of diagnosis can be included), and a recommendation section. Recommendations can include building on strengths, supporting areas of vulnerability, and possible additional services or assessments that might be helpful (such as follow-up with a medical professional, speech and language therapist, therapeutic services, etc.). For high school students, recommendations could also include specific accommodations for exams such as the IB DP, IGCSE, and SATs. Through this collaborative process, I work closely with parents, teachers, and other educational professionals to ensure that every student receives the support and resources they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
